Frequently Asked Questions

Can I take my tests straight away?
First, you must have passed the CSCS Health & Safety Touch Screen test within the last two years. Additionally, your test needs to be scheduled in advance, so it’s recommended to book at least a week ahead.
What testing is involved?

Testing is divided into two parts – Theory and Practical. The Theory test is a one-to-one verbal exam, which is recorded, where the tester assesses your theoretical knowledge of the Plant category you wish to test for. You must pass the Theory test before proceeding to the Practical test. Both tests have time limits.

I am an experienced operator. Can I just take the tests?
Yes, you can, though it’s recommended to complete Refresher Training.
What happens if I fail one part?

You may retake both the Theory and Practical tests, but refunds will not be issued. If you’re concerned about passing, please reach out to us—training is available.

How old do I have to be?

The minimum age requirement is 16 years. A National Insurance number is needed to register with the scheme.

What is the difference between Red and Blue cards?

A Red card is for the Trained operator, while the Blue card is for the Competent operator. After achieving a Red card, you have two years to complete a Diploma/NVQ. If not completed, your Red card will expire, potentially resulting in lost time and money. We can assist you with your NVQ and advise on renewing your Blue Competence card.
