Can I do my CPCS tests straight away?
Firstly, you must have passed CSCS Health & Safety Touch Screen test in the last 2 years. In addition, CPCS will need to be notified of your test before you can proceed. Therefore, it is advisable to book your test at least a week in advance to allow for this.

What testing is involved?
It is split into 2 parts – Theory and Practical. The Theory test is a one to one verbal exam which is recorded. The tester examines the operator’s theoretical knowledge of the Plant category that you require to take. This test must be achieved before the Practical test can be taken. There are time limits on both Theory and Practical tests.

I am an experienced operator. Can I just take the tests?
Yes you can, but it is advisable to have Refresher Training.

What happens if I fail one part?
You can re-sit both the Theory and Practical tests. Refunds will not be issued. Remember if you are concerned you will not pass, speak to us. Training is available.

How old do I have to be?
The age requirement is 16 years old for a CPCS card. You need a National Insurance number to register with the scheme.

What is the difference between Red and Blue CPCS cards?
A Red CPCS card is for the Trained operator. Blue is for the Competent operator. After achieving the Red card you have 2 years to achieve a Diploma/NVQ. If you don’t do this your Red card will expire and you will have wasted valuable time and money. We will advise you and help with your NVQ and with how to renew your Blue Competence card.
