Shawn Hunt selected Trade Assessment Ltd for One to One Training

Who is the client?

Shawn, who is based in Hampshire, wanted to train to improve his career prospects and also take his career in a different direction. Previously, he worked in an industrial environment but wanted to change into the construction industry. Shawn had looked into paying for one to one training with a couple of providers unfortunately these did not cover all aspects of the course he needed to complete. As Shawn was new to the construction industry he was a little apprehensive about what the course would entail or indeed what skills were needed, so wanted to discuss the course with someone, to make sure he was not wasting his time or money.

When did this project start and when was it completed?

Shawn started his training in August 2011 and after a week’s intensive training successfully achieved his Telescopic qualification. As he already had a valid Health and Safety certificate he was able to acquire his red CPCS Trained Operator card.

What problem(s) did the client have?

As Shawn was paying as an individual he wanted to complete his training as soon as possible and keep his costs down. He was also apprehensive about passing any exams, as he found tests a very stressful experience.

What actions were taken to solve the problem(s)?

Shawn was anxious about his new training. As a mature student, he questioned whether he was a suitable candidate for learning new skills. However, Trade Assessments spoke to Shawn and discussed his training in detail, to ensure that his individual needs would be met.

Trade Assessments were able to reassure Shawn about the tests and give him the confidence he needed to pass the assessments. Prior to this, they helped Shawn with his training and secured funding for his NVQ through Train to Gain (which another provider had been unable to do). In addition, they organised his red Trained Operator CPCS test for him. This enabled Shawn to concentrate on his training and prepare for his assessment rather than worrying about administrative details.

What were the results?

Shawn now has his red Trained Operator CPCS card and is looking for someone to take him on as a Telescopic Handler. This will allow him to complete his NVQ (through the Train to Gain scheme) and achieve a blue Competent Operator CPCS card, to develop his career in construction further.

Shawn is currently employed using his REACH and Counter Balance qualifications. However, Shawn is keen to continue training with Trade Assessments in the future to gain CPCS recognitions as a Dumper Operator, a banksman and a 360 operator, so he can improve his employability and widen his career opportunities.

Shawn already has better career prospects for the future and has said he would never use anyone else but Trade Assessments for his future plant operation training.

Shawn Hunt said:

“I really appreciated the way Mel and Max at Trade Assessments put me at ease and talked to me as an individual, spending as much time and effort with me as they would with a big company. They helped me feel I could achieve what I needed. Without question, I will do all my future plant training with Trade Assessments. I would recommend them to anyone else looking for a great training provider”.

Mel Tutt said:

“All of us at Trade Assessments really enjoy training students of all ages. It is especially rewarding to see the achievement and pride that people feel when they are training to make career changes and to work with someone like Shawn who was so keen to restart his career was a real joy”.
